Take Action Now – Even Imperfect Action

“Take Action Now – Even Imperfect Action” written by Mike Marko.

Do you want to know everything (about a task) before starting?

To be an “expert” before you even start applying what you know?

Don’t worry, most people do.  And you’re in good company.

I used to want to know as much as possible about something before beginning anything.  One example comes to mind…

My Own Imperfect Action Example

An example of me wanting to know everything was with rental properties.   I read at least 30 books on real estate before buying my first single-family property to be turned into a rental.  I thought I knew it all when I started.  The funny thing was that first rental property flopped.  I still didn’t know what I was doing.  And to this day it is the worse property in my portfolio (I can’t get rid of it without a huge loss).  But the since I took the plunge, and didn’t give up, I quickly bought another property right afterwards.  This second property because one of my most profitable.

Had I not pushed myself to take action now, and continued trying to get better, I never would have had all the successful rental properties I have today.

I took imperfect action.

Take Action Now!

Imperfect Action Is Better Than No Action

I occasionally hear people telling me that they want to wait and really understand something before starting.  I can only shake my head because I have a hard time explaining to them that imperfect action is better than no action… that you will never know everything 100% before starting.  What’s worse, even if you could learn something and become an expert, if it is anything to do with the internet chances are your knowledge will be obsolete within a few months.

You won’t know something 100%.

But that isn’t something to worry about.  Learning should be an ongoing exercise.  The more you apply your knowledge, the better the knowledge not only is retained but you gain real life experience of what works and what doesn’t.

When You Take Action Now

When you take action now, you will make mistakes but at least you are making progress.

Think of it like this: you goal, when you really understand your desired outcome, is like GPS.  You make get taken off course at times, but you know the GPS will help you find your way.  And that is because you are MOVING.  If you aren’t moving, then you’ll never reach your destination.

And if you delay taking action you only delay arriving at your desired destination.

For example, I COULD have stopped after my first rental property.  I could have stopped to learn more before continuing to buy rental properties.  During the process of my first rental property, I did find out I didn’t know as much as I needed yet.  But luckily I decided to “take action now” and continue with my goal of acquiring rental property.  Sure I made mistakes, but I learned from all of them and got better.  I learned more than what any book could teach me.

What Will YOU Take Action Now On?

It’s time to stop analyzing things.  It’s time to take action now.

Remember that imperfect action is better than no action.  If you keep trying to learn everything first ultimately you’ll take no action.

Decide TODAY that you will take action now on a task you have been putting off.  You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll start becoming successful.
