Complete Your LinkedIn Profile

Incomplete profiles are more common than you would think. Unfortunately, they’re also harmful when you’re trying to grow your LinkedIn professional network.

Your LinkedIn profile serves as your online resume. You have to ensure it has all the important details.

You should fill in data such as your business name and your website. Your business name and website link will help your followers find your profile and homepage easily.

The next step to your profile completion is your “Summary”. Make sure to clearly express how your online business stands out from the rest when writing it.

This is your first step to promoting yourself properly on LinkedIn. If your profile page is in order and sells you and your services well, more people will likely want to connect with you.

Use the “Add Connections” Feature

Once you’ve logged into your LinkedIn account, click on “Contacts” then “Add Connections”. This tool is handy as it’ll search for your email contacts.

It’ll also make suggestions of people you may want to connect with. This feature will help you grow your LinkedIn professional network with your existing contacts.

You may also want to export your contacts from LinkedIn to another contact management system. This will let you bring your LinkedIn connections even to another platform.

Connect with People You Know

Ask your contacts to join your LinkedIn professional network by sending them an invitation. If they accept your request, they’ll become your 1st-degree connections.

1st-degree connections are the people you’re directly connected to on the network. They can access your information, so it’s better to invite people you know.

You can share your profile with any of your 1st-degree connections. Follow these steps to help you grow your LinkedIn professional network through 1st-degree connections:

  • Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage then click View Profile.
  • Click the button in your introduction card then select Share Profile.
  • You’ll be directed to your Messaging page. Type the names of the connections you wish to share your profile with.
  • Your public profile URL will appear in the text box. You can include a personalized message.

LinkedIn gives you the opportunity to link with various people you know. So, you should actively add people to your LinkedIn professional network even from outside the platform.

1) Add Friends and Family Members from Facebook

Facebook is another large networking site where you may have friends with LinkedIn accounts. Since Facebook has a large number of users, your LinkedIn professional network may grow a lot if you mine it for potential connections.

Try adding Facebook friends to your LinkedIn professional network. This is easier if you have their email addresses, of course. If you don’t, you can always try asking for them.

2) Add People from Business Cards You’ve Collected

A lot of people still use business cards today. You can add the ones you’ve collected to your LinkedIn professional network.

This’ll help you save, search, and expand your contact information from those cards. People or companies who give out business cards will most likely have LinkedIn accounts.

Most professionals also use LinkedIn as their online resume. The owners of the business cards you’ve collected probably think of LinkedIn the same way.

By connecting with these professionals, you can also share connections with them. This will help you grow each other’s LinkedIn professional network.

3) Add New People You’ve Met

As a business person, you’ll most likely be interacting with different people every day. Make it a habit to connect on LinkedIn with people you’ve met in real life.

Once you’ve established a good connection with a client, search for them and add them to your LinkedIn professional network, for example.

If they don’t have a LinkedIn profile yet, sending them an invitation is also a good idea. This will give them another way to reach you.

LinkedIn gives you options to browse for “Groups You May Like” from LinkedIn’s suggestions. These groups are where other businesspeople come together to build their LinkedIn professional network.

Join groups that are active and that are connected to your line of business. Stick with your active groups and interact with them.

Choose your groups wisely so you won’t waste your time when networking. You also can find customers through these groups. You may even find other professionals who want to join your LinkedIn professional network.

Be active in your groups by sharing your knowledge. This can also raise your credibility as an expert in providing answers. If you prove that you can help them, more people will want to connect with you.

Use the Company Follow and LinkedIn Share Button

A business profile has a “Follow” button plugin your audience can use to find and follow your LinkedIn profile.

You can also use the LinkedIn “Share button” plugin to let your audience share your content on their profiles.
