If this is one of your business’ goals, then it is worth making SEO a part of your online marketing strategy. Utilizing SEO results in an increase in your website’s rank on the search results page.

What does this mean?

A high website rank means higher visibility to people on the search results page when they are actively searching for your keywords. This increases the chances of them visiting your website.

The importance of SEO is the reason why it is fundamental part of the Pervasive Presence program.

However, doing this is as complex as it sounds. This Google SEO guide aims to simplify SEO for beginners to subsequently help you get the web traffic that you desire.

Google SEO Guide – Tips to Boost Website Traffic

Google’s web traffic is driven mostly by major commercial search engines. For your website to gain more traffic, you need to make sure you run-through your website with Google SEO in mind.

If search engines fail to find your site, this means you are missing out on a lot of opportunities to drive traffic to your site. This results in fewer people are seeing what your business can offer.

This Google SEO guide is designed to prevent that and help you boost your website to drive traffic.

But before we get started – what exactly is SEO?

What is Search Engine Optimization?

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process of getting and maximizing traffic for your website from Google for free. The goal behind this is to land first, or at least achieve a high position, on the list of search results page.

When you diligently follow the steps given in this guide, SEO will guarantee to increase the number of visits to your site. More visitors means a larger audience will be informed about your products and services.

The following are the steps of our Google SEO guide:

Create Good Page Titles

Your page title plays a critical role in SEO. you need to be able to create a page title that captures the interest of your viewers and encourage them to check what you have to offer.

The page’s content should be unique, concise and accurately describe what the page contains.

Home Page Title

Your home page title is the first thing that users will find. The title can include the name of your website, business and/or other important information.

The title is also one of the important methods of Google to determine what topic is talked about on the page.

Post/Other Pages Title

It’s important to be creative when creating other posts or pages of your website. Creative page titles of other post and pages will encourage your visitors to explore more of your website.

Step Up an Informative Description

An important part of your website is its description meta tag which gives users, Google, and other search engines a summary of what your page contains

Follow these guidelines in creating a good description:

  • Provide a unique description for all pages, post, products of your website to catch your visitor’s interests.

  • Keep the size between 140-150 characters. Keep it short and concise.  (I know Google presently allows longer meta descriptions… but you need to keep the mobile visitor in mind).

  • Avoid repeating the title in the description. Make the most out of the 150-character limit you have.
  • Don’t add too many keywords. Use keywords that are relevant and important. Avoid bombarding the search engine with a lot of keywords.  I typically aim for one or two keyword phrases.

Make Use of Permanent Link Structures

The permanent link structure is a term used in describing the format of URLs for pages or an individual post on a website. Permalink is shown in the browser address bar and in the search results.

For SEO Guidelines for URLs, you can follow these steps:

  • Make URLs simple and easy to understand.
  • Use hyphens ‘ – ’.
  • Avoid lengthy URLs.
  • Use descriptive words.

Use Internal Links Appropriately

Internal links are links in a page that point to other pages within the website. Google uses these links to determine the relevance of your page’s content and its value.

Internal links are different from external links. As the algorithm changes frequently, it is important to evaluate and improve your internal linking strategy on a regular basis.

Properly placed links ensures that Google understands the relevance, relationship, and the value of pages.

To effectively link appropriate internal links, there are certain rules to follow:

  • Link related articles together with the use of the full article title.
  • Links must be useful for both users. It must be easy to understand by search engines.
  • Don’t make links for search engines only.
  • Do not use terms like ‘click here’ or ‘’ for internal linking. Be creative.
  • Use only a couple of internal links per page.
  • Don’t link significantly older posts from new posts. Make it to a point to separate them.  It’s more advantageous to edit the older posts and link to the newer posts.

Always Make Use of H1, H2, And H3

Start by doing basic formatting on your website’s content before posting anything. Publishing contents without taking this into consideration may harm user experience and work against your SEO efforts.

These are the general guidelines for formatting a post or page on your website:

  • H1 tags for the title (this is usually automatically done for blog pages),
  • H2 tags for main headings,
  • H3 tags for subheadings,
  • Use BOLD, Italics, and Underline keywords (in moderation),
  • Write small paragraphs (1-3 sentences per paragraph), and
  • Use a font size that is easy to read.

The 404 Page

The 404 page is shown when a page on your site doesn’t exist or when the link used is wrong. As this is detrimental to user experience, a constant 404 page error may reduce the activity of users on your website.

A properly configured 404 page must give information and navigation to other pages. Additionally, it must have a consistent design with the rest of the website.

Optimize Your Images

Optimize the size of your images to make it easier for your website to load. The smaller the size of the images on the page, the faster the website loads.

You can also make use Alt Text to describe the image, or you can also add relevant keywords. Avoid using file names like image1.jpg or person1.pg, and use unique names with dashes instead.

It’s also smart to keep all image files in a dedicated folder on your site, i.e. www.IMConsultantServices.com/images/.

Make Sure You Have a Good Page Speed

Page speed is an important factor in user experience. Fast responsive sites encourage visitors to use your site again.

Google’s aim is to provide the searcher with the most accurate page results. Websites that load in less than four seconds tend to rank better in search results, resulting in more page visits and more conversions.

Also, if your page runs slow then that generally means that you require more data to load the site on mobile.  As Google continues to optimize for the mobile experience you may slip further in Google rankings if you don’t properly address this.

Have Mobile Friendly Websites

A study shows that users tend to use smartphones more often when performing a search. Therefore, it’s imperative that your website is mobile-friendly in order to continue providing good user experience.

Understanding the difference between a mobile-friendly website and native mobile app will help you determine how mobile-friendly your website is.

  • A mobile-friendly website is optimized for viewing on the mobile browser.
  • A native Android, iPhone or Windows mobile app can be downloaded from mobile markets.

The decision to choose either to use a mobile-friendly website or a mobile app will depend on what you want the visitor to do, functionality of the platform, etc.  Often a mobile-friendly website can serve your needs.

Publish Good Content

A website with original and quality content is the most effective way to drive traffic to your site. Visitors tend to stay longer on a page when there is interesting content published on it.

Include references when stating facts taken from other sources and provide an accurate description. It’s important to check for spelling and grammar mistakes to properly present your information.

Don’t Forget Fresh Content Too

Visitors love new content. Covering something new regarding your topic would give the people and the search engine gives people a reason to visit your page. However, avoid publishing pages with similar content so as not to cause content fatigue amongst the readers.

Check Your External Links

External links are important in SEO. Unlike internal links that point to different pages within the website, external links point to other websites.

Use links that have no broken links. It’s also important to not cheat the system by posting your links on many questionable websites as this can make Google mark your website as spam.
