What Are Facebook Ads?

Facebook ads are ads that appear on the Facebook platform (on desktop or your mobiel device) as you scroll down on your News Feed.  They also appear in the Facebook messenger ap.

These days, it’s rare to find someone without a Facebook account. Use this to your advantage to expand your reach in the digital landscape.

Note that you can also use the Facebook ad platform to put ads on Instagram and on the Facebook audience network.

How do Facebook Ads Work?

Unlike other social media platforms, Facebook gives businesses more options when setting up their advertisements.

Facebook ads can be aimed at users based on their location, demographic, interests, and even relationship status.

When running multiple ads, the platform also gives you the option to choose how much of your budget will be used on each ad.

When used properly, Facebook’s options in posting an advertisement can become a great tool for driving engagement and brand awareness.

1. Your Audience is on Facebook

Facebook has approximately 1.49 billion users and they generate 22 ads clicks per year. Most people spend hours scrolling through their news feed every day. With that said, Facebook is amongst the best social media networks that offer the biggest advertising opportunity for most businesses.

Basic Steps on Creating Facebook Ads

A different approach to advertising is required if you’re going to use Facebook as a means of reaching out to your preferred audience.

It’s easy to make Facebook ads. But in order to make them effective, you need to first learn the basics.

1. Use HQ Images

When making ads, use high-quality images that belong to you. Never go for low quality and copyright-protected ones.

There are three ways to get an image:

  • Purchase the image from the owner,
  • Find the ones that are not copyright protected, or
  • Create the image yourself.

In order to get your audience’s attention, you can try to strategically use images of people, typography and funny memes. These are proven to be the most effective among users.

The ad image is a very important part of the ad and can contribute to over 70% of the ads success.

2. Create Captions

An interesting or a funny caption captures an audience’s curiosity. Taking advantage of this would result to users clicking on your page and searching for more similar images.

Consider adding a brief description of your products when making an advertisement. It needs to be short and concise, as well as focused on giving the benefits of using your products.

After the description, invite your audience to purchase your product. Give exclusive discounts, free trials, or limited time offers to increase the chances of purchase. End your caption with a call to action.

3. Maximize the Potential of Your Facebook Ads

Even if you do manage to make an outstanding advertisement, don’t invest a huge amount of money in it. Always start with a low bid to first determine your Click-Through Rate (CTR).

I recommend spending about $50 to $100 over a few days to help determine the success of an ad.

If your CTR is high, your suggested bids will decrease. However, if your CTR is low, you’ll need to bid more for each click.

Your bid also dictates how much of your target audience you’re able to reach with your given budget.  Increasing your bid will help your ad reach more of your target audience.

Note that you need to have at least 7 results a day over several days for Facebook to optimize your ad to help further reduce cost, and deliver the ad to the right people.

4. Track Your Performance

The use of analytics programs like Facebook Analytics or KISSmetrics provide performance analytics and insights on the kind of advertisements that work among your target audience. It also informs you which demographics engaged with your ads the most.

Even the best ads performance will decline over time. This will happen quickly if you have a small number of audience.  Watch the frequency result to determine how many times a week your audience is seeing the same ads.

Avoid ad fatigue by using different ad creatives (aka images).

Final Thoughts Creating Effective Facebook Ads

There is no better way for businesses to reach their audience than through Facebook. However, building a following on Facebook can take a long time if you are simply relying on publishing organic posts.

As a result, businesses turn to promoting their posts and creating advertisements on the platform to get their message to their target market faster. Today, we discussed how to create effective Facebook ads to ensure that your investment is not going to waste.

Facebook ads are cheaper than other forms of advertising and far more efficient when used correctly. To maximize their potential, it is important to target people that are relevant to your audience. You can do this by filtering demographics, online behavior, interests and so on.

But as you are competing with other companies for their attention, it is equally important to make sure that your ad is relevant to them. This means making use of high-quality images with attention-grabbing captions and call-to-action.
