In the video I talk about how to effectively get away from the “one-hit wonder” Facebook ads and actually create Facebook ad campaigns that get results. Now I’m going to go into further detail on how to build these effective marketing campaigns.
The Ad Grid was created to help increase ad success rate 20 times over. It’s how we plan, test, and measure our paid traffic campaigns. It’s the way we organize and carefully coordinate our traffic strategy.
Basically… the Ad Grid takes the guess work out of creating ad campaigns.

There is a of power behind the Ad Grid that goes beyond it just being a spreadsheet.
But first let’s talk about the trap you’re probably falling into if you are not implementing a similar strategy. It’s one I’ve fallen into a lot in the past…
The “One-Hit Wonder” Campaign
The “one-hit wonder” is a phenomena that occurs when marketers just make ads.
That is… they don’t come up with a plan. They may make a couple ads with one or two different audiences, and they may even test a couple images, but that’s pretty much it… They then launch the ad and expect the leads and sales to pour in.
But… most of the time the leads and sales DON’T pour in. Or the campaign is only successful for a few days or weeks.
The reason this doesn’t work is because you are only giving yourself 1 or 2 chances to sell your offer. And if those offers don’t resonate with your audience then your campaign will fail.
Most people will quit at this point…
One-Off Campaigns Are Bad
One-off campaigns are bad because:
- They only work for a short amount of time
- They typically have lower quality scores. It doesn’t resonate with the audience.
- They aren’t scalable. It’s really hard to find the ad that will work best over a longer time period.
- They will repel the customers because the ad is almost jamming the offer down their throats
- The message is put in front of the wrong audience.
That’s why it’s good to use an approach like the Ad Grid.
The Ad Grid Process
The Ad Grid helps you have a systematic and thorough way of creating ads. This prevents you from wasting time and money.
It’s very important that you create an Ad Grid for every offer your create.
Now when you create an Ad Grid, the key is to focus on the capture page and lead magnet. That is the beginning of the funnel. The goal of the ad (and the Ad Grid) is to get clicks to the capture page and that’s it.
The Steps Of The Ad Grid
The following are the steps of the Ad Grid are as follows:
- Identify your avatars.
- Identify your hooks. The hook is the market message of your offer, or the why people should opt into your offer to get the lead magnet.
- Write the sales copy. Make sure when you write the sales copy that you present the offer to the avatar, and that you market message is congruent with the offer on the capture page. That means that you need to make sure people know what to expect with they click the ad and go to the capture page. Put the sales copy into the Ad Grid to track it. I use a spreadsheet like Excel to store the copy.
- Avatar research. Make sure you pick the right social media platform for your avatar, and that you choose the right groups and interests for the ad. Otherwise you could be presenting the offer to the wrong audience.
- Create the creative. Make sure the creative depicts the hook… which is your marketing message. The creative needs to help support the ad message.
- Compile the results. Run the ads for five to seven days before you really start analyzing your results. Make sure you pick the right success metric for measuring the results of the ad (ROI, cost per acquisition, cost per lead, cost per click, etc).
- Scale up. Now that you found a successfully converting ad, scale down the ads that aren’t getting results and scale up the ad (or ads) that are really performing.

When you get into the habit of successfully using the Ad Grid for EVERY offer you present you will avoid the “one-hit wonders” approach that most marketers are doing. Use the Ad Grid to find the ads that work and scale them up. You’ll find that your marketing results will be that much better when you use a thorough approach like this.
