Don’t worry, most people make the same mistakes… and there is a more effective technique to running your ads.

That’s why I want to present a proven technique that we use for my clients, with a real world example.

So why don’t most Facebook ads work?

Let’s talk about that first.

Why Most Facebook Ads Don’t Work

When people typically market on Facebook it’s the equivalent of walking up to a complete stranger and asking them to marry you. “I know you don’t know me, we have never met before… but buy my stuff”

The problem really stems from the fact that the seller is not aware of the marketing platform… people are on Facebook to be social. They are not Facebook to buy stuff. If they wanted to buy stuff, they would be on Amazon, eBay, searching Google, etc.

What makes matter worse, Facebook ads have now reached saturation… meaning that you now see about as many ads as Facebook would dare present people before pushing users off the platform. So you’re really competing vs a lot of other people making the same mistakes.

Yet Facebook advertising can still be VERY powerful and effective for your business.

So you need to follow a very specific approach to marketing on Facebook. The technique I show in the following video also works extremely well for products/services that are build around your brand.

Now let’s break this down…

The “Facebook Marketing Funnel”

Let’s talk about the “Facebook advertising funnel” as a series of ads.

Ad #1 – Get Them To The “Sidewalk”

The concept is that Ad #1 helps get the attention of the cold traffic on Facebook. Remember: people are not on Facebook to buy something, they are there to be social (or to watch what everyone else is doing). That means the goal of the ad is to get them a step closer to knowing and trusting you.

The key here is that you need to give something of value without expecting a sale right away: “Give before you ask”. You have to give value at every step of the way. Be the leader in your space by advertising to build interaction and not transaction.

Investing in Facebook ads is not really the different than investing in stock market in such that you are looking for a return for your investment in 90 to 180 days. You should not look for the immediate return.

So give something of value that your target audience would value. Make sure you give this some thought. Ideally this would be something they can “consume” in 1-3 minutes (1 minute is better).

I like to use the analogy of a brick and mortar store… this first ad is like trying to get someone from the street to the sidewalk near your store. It is not to get them into your store. Instead it is to get their interest and ready to learn more.

In the video example above I used a short 1 minute video to get a lot of interest. It was selected to grab the attention of people in Facebook as they scrolled through the feed.

Ad #2 – Get Them Into The “Store”

Now that you have them on the “sidewalk” the next step is to get them into the store.

They only see this ad if they see the first ad and showed some form of interest.

Continue to give value. Remember, you should always be making sure your ad is valuable to the viewer in of itself even if the person doesn’t buy.

At this point you are still audience building awareness, or lead generation. You should be using short form ad copy to talk about taking the visitor to that next step. You want to send them to a sales page so you can use the information (Facebook pixels) for targeting in the future.

In the video example above I used a short interview about the product to both educate people about the product while they learned a couple valuable tips they could use on their own. They only saw this video if they saw a portion of the first video.

Ad #3 – Sell Them

Now that you have them “in the store” it’s time to turn up the selling. They should only see this ad if they show interest in the previous ad.

This is where you can use long form sales copy to “close the deal”. At this point they should be familiar with who you are, your brand, and the product.

I like to give an irresistible offer at this point. It starts off with a discount on the product or services AND/OR bonus stacking to help close the deal. They should have had some opportunities to buy already in the previous ads, but now it’s time to make sure they pull the trigger.

And in order for them to take advantage of the offer they have to put their email into a capture page… thus taking them into your marketing funnel.

In the video example above I used another video to tell even more benefits of the product, and have them opt in for a $100 off coupon.

The Marketing Funnel

If you don’t have an effective marketing funnel in place then you’ll miss out on a lot of your potential sales. A good follow up strategy is important.
